Camp
Ashmere hires staff for a variety of summer seasonal positions. All summer staff
members are exceptional, positive Christian role models to all campers and
guests. Enthusiastic summer staff needed in all
departments- kitchen, maintenance, office, waterfront (lifeguards and boat
drivers), program staff, and full time counselors. All positions are paid
positions and also include housing and meals provided on site. General
summer staff training beings the first week of July.

Camp
Ashmere Position Descriptions:
“All staff members are required to live at camp for the
entire camp season. You will be given room and board each week. Counselors and
Junior Counselors will reside in cabins with the overnight campers. Other staff
members will be given staff housing that is shared with another staff member,
and may be dormitory style. Saturday noon to Sunday noon is the traditional
staff day off. Staff salaries ranges are listed below and is paid bi-weekly.”

Assistant
Director (AD):
The AD
directly supervises the counseling staff, oversees the spiritual
nurture of both staff and campers, and undertakes other tasks as
assigned by the Camp Director. The AD is in charge of camp in the
absence of the Camp Director. This position reports directly to the
Camp Director. The AD must be at least 21 years of age at the start
of camp.
Salary $350-400 - week |
Program Director (PD):
The PD
supervises the main program areas of camp. He/she is responsible for
recreation and the waterfront. He/she supervises the Waterfront Team
and the Recreation Team and is responsible for maintenance and use
of all program equipment. The PD also acts as the liaison between
the Camp Director and other program areas as needed. This position
reports directly to the Camp Director. The PD must be at least 21
years of age at the start of camp.
Salary $350 – 400 – week |

Waterfront Director
The
WD is responsible for ensuring safe, smooth operation of Waterfront activities.
He/she must be present at all Waterfront activities. The WD is also responsible
for organizing the boathouse, planning aquatic activities in consultation with
the Program Director, and directing any other Lifeguards on duty at the
waterfront.
The
WD should be able to instruct young children to swim, from
non-swimmers to advanced swimmers. Experience with small water
craft
such as row boats, canoes, and sail boats is desirable. The WD may
also be called upon to serve in other capacities,
including cabin
supervision, as needed and as duties allow. This position
reports
directly to the Program Director. The WD must be 19 years of age
and
have completed a recognized Lifeguard certification course by
the start of camp.
21 years of age and WSI certification preferred.
Salary $350 – 400 – week |
Waterfront / Lifeguard:
Works
with Waterfront Director to ensure a safe, fun and rewarding
waterfront experience for our campers. The waterfront team oversees
all swimming and boating activities. Lifeguards must complete
American Red Cross or recognized equivalent Lifeguard Certification
by start of Camp. Familiarity with boats, canoes a plus.

Counselor - Male and Female:
Counselors are the backbone of our summer ministry at Camp Ashmere.
Counselors are the primary leaders of a cabin of campers, sleeping
in the cabin at night, leading Bible studies, and creating a
physically, spiritually, and emotionally safe environment.
Counselors also lead and assist in a variety of activities,
including waterfront activates, hikes, games, skills, campfires, and
chapel services. Counselors are expected to be focused and attentive
whenever they are around campers. Counselors must be at least 18
years of age or have completed one year of college by the start of
camp.
Salary starting at $320 – 340 - week |
Maintenance:
Maintenance workers perform vital tasks to keep camp running
smoothly. Primary responsibilities include light groundskeeping and maintenance
work, cleaning duties around camp, and general awareness of the condition of the
camp physical plant. Maintenance staff may also be asked to assist in other
areas, including proper preparation and extinguishing of camp fires and set-up
or tear-down for special events. This position reports directly to the the Camp
Director. Kitchen/Camp Maintenance worker should be 18 years old in order to
work with camp machinery, and should be in good physical shape.

Dining Facility Manager/Head Cook:
The
camp Cook is responsible for food preparation for up to 80 campers
and staff per week. The cook oversees the kitchen, including the
Assistant Cook. This position includes oversight of the food
ordering process and responsibility for maintaining compliance with
Massachusetts state food service regulations.
As
cook oversees daily food preparation, providing wholesome food
choices, and may have to provide alternate food choices for campers
with special dietary considerations. This position reports
directly to the
Camp Director. The Cook must be 21 years old by the
start of camp
and possess all necessary food service certifications.
Salary
$380 – 420 week |
Assistant Cook:
The
Assistant Cook works alongside the Cook to prepare and clean up from
meals. This position reports directly to the Camp Cook. The
Assistant Cook must be 18 years of age by the start of camp.

Kitchen Staff:
Kitchen staff assist the head cook and assistant cook in preparation
of daily meals. Responsibilities include food preparation, serving,
cleaning duties in the kitchen, the dining hall, the bath house and
other areas as needed. K-Staff does general cleaning, trash
removal, stockage of dry goods and food items. The position reports
directly to the Head Cook for all kitchen duties and to the Camp
Director for all other maintenance duties as assigned.
Kitchen/Maintenance workers must be at least 16 years old. Salary
$240 – 320 week. |
Recreation Director: (new)
Responsible for developing a safe program of recreation appropriate
for the age group present. May be leading up to four small groups
daily. In addition, this individual will be responsible for leading
an “all
camp recreation activity” in cooperation with the Camp Director or
Assistant daily. The Camp Director may call on the Recreation
Director to assist with evening programs in conjunction with other
senior staff (such as the Waterfront Director). The Rec. Director
must
be energetic and enjoy working with children of all ages in an
outdoor environment. Familiarity with archery and low ropes courses
a plus.
Must be flexible, able to adjust programs depending on the weather,
and be knowledgeable of a wide variety of sports and their rules and
regulations. All recreation must be designed to develop
sportsmanship
and fair play. The Rec. Dir reports to the Camp Director.

Camp
Pastor:
Responsible for the spiritual leadership of the campers and staff
for the
various weeks of the summer season. This individual is responsible
for not
only leading the various groups of campers in their spiritual growth
but
also helping to feed the staff throughout the summer. The Pastor
will be
able to plan age appropriate chapel services for the campers and
staff as
well.
The Pastor may be asked to assist in developing daily devotions and
Bible studies. The Pastor may be asked to assist the Camp Director
deal with campers and staff in counseling and intervention. The
ability to relate
Bible stories, camp fire stories and to lead camp songs a positive
asset.
This position may be tailored to fit the Seminary Student who is
completing
a work study or internship.

Craft
Director:
The
Craft Director is responsible for planning all craft projects for
the season. This includes overnight camps and day camps. If
possible,
at least some of the crafts should coincide with the season’s
theme.
The director is responsible for the ordering of needed materials,
the organization of and care of all craft materials.
During
staff training, craft director should be able to instruct counselors
on how to assist campers with their projects and craft shop
etiquette.
A prototype of each project should be available so that counselors,
or whoever is helping, knows what to do. This individual should be
creative with the ability to develop various craft projects for the
different age groups that come through camp. Needs to be able to
direct the counseling staff, and reports to the Camp Director.
Salary $340 – 360 week. |
