2010 Program Offerings

Day Camp: $150/week
Once again, the Ashmere bus will be coming to a town near you to pick up campers entering grades 1-4 for Day Camp. This camp introduces campers to the fun, growth, and excitement of Ashmere through age-appropriate programming. Activities include swimming instruction, large and small group outdoor games, introductions to the environment, and Bible studies. Ashmere Day Camp is a cost-effective, low-stress, and enjoyable way to introduce children to the joys of summer camp!

Explorations: $325/week
These sessions are specifically designed to help campers entering grades 4-6 explore God’s world. From newer activities like EcoHikes and our Initiatives Course to camp classics like Archery, Crafts, and Swimming, campers will be challenged to expand their horizons, rediscover old favorites, and, as always, have fun!

Senior Adventure Camp: $395/week
This popular camp invites older campers, those entering grade 7 up thorugh17 years of age, to step out of their comfort zones and challenge themselves physically, emotionally, and spiritually through high adventure. Adventure Camp includes off-site trips for fun and challenging new experiences. Don’t miss the adventure!

Senior Traditions: $385/week
The classic Ashmere experience for campers entering grades 7-10! Come enjoy the beautiful waterfront, spiritual refreshment, and exciting games and activities that have made summers at Ashmere a tradition for over 90 years.

Leadership Training Camp (LTC): $100/week
For those entering grades 9-11, we once again offer Leadership Training Camp! Get first-hand leadership experience working as a Counselor-in-Training with our Day Campers, be mentored by our college-age Counseling staff, and be challenged by specially tailored Bible studies and evening programs. Admission by application only. Application forms available by request or on our website.

Splash Camp: $395/week
This brand-new camp for those entering grades 5-8 invites campers to make the most of our beautiful lakeside setting. Aquatic games and activities– including a surprise water adventure– highlight this unique week.

Camp Ashmere Position Descriptions:

Assistant Director (AD): The AD directly supervises the counseling staff, oversees the spiritual nurture of both staff and campers, and undertakes other tasks as assigned by the Camp Director. The AD is in charge of camp in the absence of the Camp Director. This position reports directly to the Camp Director. The AD must be at least 21 years of age at the start of camp.

Program Director (PD): The PD supervises the main program areas of camp. He/she is responsible for recreation and the waterfront. He/she supervises the Waterfront Team and the Recreation Team and is responsible for maintenance and use of all program equipment. The PD also acts as the liaison between the Camp Director and other program areas as needed. This position reports directly to the Camp Director. The PD must be at least 21 years of age at the start of camp.

Waterfront Director (WD): The WD is responsible for ensuring safe, smooth operation of Waterfront activities. He/she must be present at all Waterfront activities. The WD is also responsible for organizing the boathouse, planning aquatic activities in consultation with the Program Director, and directing any other Lifeguards on duty at the waterfront. The WD may also be called upon to serve in other capacities, including cabin supervision, as needed and as duties allow. This position reports directly to the Program Director. The WD must be 19 years of age and have completed a recognized Lifeguard certification course by the start of camp. 21 years of age and WSI certification preferred.

Counselor: Counselors are the backbone of our summer ministry at Camp Ashmere. Counselors are the primary leaders of a cabin of campers, sleeping in the cabin at night, leading Bible studies, and creating a physically, spiritually, and emotionally safe environment. Counselors also lead and assist in a variety of activities, including waterfront activates, hikes, games, skills, campfires, and chapel services. Counselors are expected to be focused and attentive whenever they are around campers. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director. Counselors must be at least 18 years of age or have completed one year of college by the start of camp.

Co-Counselor: Co-Counselors serve as the second staff person in a cabin. They assist the Counselor with his or her responsibilities in the cabin (see Counselor position description above). While Counselors lead a variety of activities during the camp day, Co-Counselors have significant responsibilities in a particular program area. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director. Within their specific program areas, Co-Counselors work with and report to the Program Director. Co-Counselors must be at least 16 years of age by the start of camp.

Co-Counselors may serve in one of the following Program Areas:

Crafts: The Crafts Co-Counselor oversees the Craft Hall. He or she teaches and assists campers in crafts projects. The Crafts Co-Counselor is also responsible for maintaining the safety and cleanliness of the crafts area and for keeping inventory of crafts supplies. The Crafts Co-Counselor reports any crafts-related needs or concerns to the Program Director.

Ecology: The Ecology Co-Counselor(s) implements Environmental Education (EE) activities as a part of the overall camp program. Responsibilities include learning the camp EE curriculum, maintaining familiarity with on-property and off-property activity sites, and maintaining and organizing all EE program materials. The Ecology Co-Counselor(s) reports any EE-related needs or concerns to the Program Director.

Recreation: Recreation Co-Counselors work with the Program Director to plan, prepare for, lead, and cleaning up from all-camp games and other large group activities. They may also receive specialized training in areas such as Archery or Initiative Course Facilitation. The Recreation Team is also responsible for organizing and maintaining recreation equipment. Recreation Co-Counselors report any Recreation-related needs or concerns to the Program Director.

Waterfront: Waterfront Co-Counselors work with the Recreation Director to ensure a safe, fun, and rewarding waterfront experience for our campers. The Waterfront Team oversees all swimming and boating activities and is responsible for maintaining and organizing all equipment for such activities. Waterfront Co-Counselors must complete American Red Cross or recognized equivalent Lifeguard Certification course by the start of camp.

Cook: The camp Cook is responsible for food preparation for up to 80 campers and staff per week. The cook oversees the kitchen, including the Assistant Cook. This position includes oversight of the food ordering process and responsibility for maintaining compliance with Massachusetts state food service regulations. This position reports directly to the Camp Director. The Cook must be 21 years old by the start of camp and possess all necessary food service certifications. (Hiring 1)

Assistant Cook: The Assistant Cook works alongside the Cook to prepare and clean up from meals. This position reports directly to the Camp Cook. The Assistant Cook must be 18 years of age by the start of camp.

Maintenance: Maintenance workers perform vital tasks to keep camp running smoothly. Primary responsibilities include light groundskeeping and maintenance work, cleaning duties around camp, and general awareness of the condition of the camp physical plant. Maintenance staff may also be asked to assist in other areas, including proper preparation and extinguishing of camp fires and set-up or tear-down for special events. This position reports directly to the the Camp Director. Kitchen/Maintenance workers must be at least 16 years old by the start of camp and should be in good physical condition.
